On childhood, books, and reading

I grew up in a small town. There wasn't much to do, so I read a lot. Books were my window to the outside world. Adventure stories, science fiction, anything I could get my hands on.

Looking back, I realize how much those early reading habits shaped who I am. Reading taught me to think, to question, to imagine possibilities beyond what I could see around me.

These days I mostly read non-fiction — technical books, essays, biographies. But I still think the most important reading I ever did was those random books I picked up as a kid, just because I was curious.

If you're wondering whether to read more — just start. Pick up anything that looks interesting. The habit matters more than the specific book.
